To the editorial mail of “Pleven press” the following statement was received from the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office – Veliko Tarnovo:

“Eight foreign citizens from Lebanon, Syria and Turkey have been sentenced for illegally crossing the country’s border. They are accused of the fact that on 13.11.2023, in the city of Nikopol, region Pleven, at the 590th river kilometer of the Danube River, have crossed the country’s border – the border between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Romania, without the permission of the appropriate authorities – a crime under Art. 279, para. 1 of the NC.

In the course of the pre-trial proceedings, the accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.

Agreements were reached between the defenders of the accused and the Pleven Regional Prosecutor’s Office, which the Nikopol Regional Court approved.

For the committed act, the foreign citizens were sentenced to six months of “imprisonment” with three years of probation and a fine of BGN 100 each.

Court-approved settlements have the effect of final judgments.”
