People’s representative from “Continuing the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” Dr. Alexander Simidchiev will take part in the fourth edition of the largest clean air forum in Europe. The event is organized by the European Commission and will take place this Thursday in Rotterdam. Dr. Simidchiev will be a panelist on the topic “Dissemination of knowledge for cleaner air”.
“The reasons for the invitation are the successes achieved with the association “Air for Health”, Doctors’ Network “Air for Health” and Student Network “Air for Health”, which have been noticed even outside the borders of our country”, he believes.
For another year, the forum gathers in one place countries from the entire European Union, as well as competent authorities on the subject of clean air.
According to the latest figures provided by the European Environment Agency, around 240,000 people died prematurely as a result of air pollution with fine particles above the permissible levels set by the World Health Organization in the EU in 2020. This marks a huge a decline since 2005 and shows that clean air policies are on the right track and are succeeding.
On 26 October 2022, the Commission proposed a revision of the EU directives on ambient air quality to bring air quality standards more in line with the latest recommendations of the World Health Organization.
