Only for the period January-September 2023, foreign direct investments (FDI) in Bulgaria reached over 3.1 billion euros, according to preliminary data of the BNB. The increase is over 1 billion euros, or nearly 50% more, compared to the same period last year. This is the highest FDI growth in the last 15 years, even compared to the annual data of this period. This was announced by the Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov during a meeting with representatives of leading Bulgarian, British and international companies in Bulgaria.
The Minister of Economy emphasized that Bulgaria is in the top 5 in the EU in terms of economic growth in the third quarter. “Despite the recession observed in Western Europe, the Bulgarian economy continues to grow by nearly 2%,” Bogdanov also stated. According to him, in the third quarter there was a growth of the gross domestic product of 1.7%, according to the express data of NSI.
“Eastern Europe offers many opportunities for growth and development and Bulgaria will be the basis of the future development of the region. We started as an outsourcing destination, and now we are becoming a hub for innovation and production and technologies with high added value,” added the minister. “I believe that Bulgaria and its regional neighbors will have an increasingly important role in the development of Europe,” he said.
According to him, in our country we already have technology companies that are globally recognized in areas such as logistics, ICT and the space industry. “Our country is a good place for investments and can become a center for development activity and a transport and logistics hub in the region,” Bogdanov pointed out.
He announced that an investment portal is being developed, which will digitize the process of administrative service for investors and will unite all state structures in one. “In it, potential investors will be able to find in one place information on prepared industrial plots, as well as on the labor market and the process of promoting projects. We will implement the entire system, taking the best practices from the EC,” the minister also said.
The event was organized by the British-Bulgarian Business Association and was also attended by the British ambassador to Bulgaria, Rob Dixon, and representatives of leading companies.
