Students majoring in Contemporary Choreography at Southwestern University returned with four awards from the Seventh Balkan Dance Olympiad, organized by the Balkan Alliance, which took place on November 18 and 19.
On the stage of the “Vuk” theater in Belgrade, led by Prof. D.Sc. Anelia Yaneva students presented their original choreographies and received well-deserved applause from the audience.
In the “Duet” category, students Niya Maleshkova and Martin Karagyozov won first place with the performance of the dance “Stay”, which is also their joint choreography.
In the “Solo” category, students from the “Contemporary Choreography” specialty were awarded three prizes, with the first place again going to freshman Nia Maleshkova. She presented an author’s choreography entitled “Love is blind”. Second place went to freshman Raina Radeva for her staging and performance of “Zhajda za život”. The third place was awarded to Martin Karagyozov from the fourth year, who danced the choreography of his fellow student Yoanna Peteva – “Arrow from the opposite bank”.
In addition to the prizes, two of the students were also awarded with the opportunity to study for a week at the Institute of Contemporary Dance in Belgrade.
The next performance of the students from the “Contemporary Choreography” major will be on November 28, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the House of Culture in Sofia, where they will present themselves with a solo concert-performance “Christmas Stars”. This will be their gift for the upcoming holidays, loaded with a lot of good mood and attractive author’s choreographies from musicals, rhythmic tasks, contemporary readings of fables, duets and ensemble choreographies in the style of modern dance.
