A municipal councilor from DPS suggests lighting the footpaths at night

--

The municipal councilor from DPS in Silistra Refik Hadjivat has tabled a brief proposing urgent measures to improve pedestrian safety at night.

The report states that with the onset of the dark part of the day, there is an increase in traffic accidents on footpaths. Hajivat emphasizes that the Municipal Council cannot directly influence factors related to drivers and motor vehicles, but it can take actions to improve the road situation.

The main problem, according to Hadjivat, is the lack of lighting on the footpaths. He points out that lighting fixtures are missing in a large part of the municipality, and where there are, they are inappropriate and do not provide enough light.

The report proposes the following measures:

• Risk assessment: To prepare an assessment of the risk of road accidents on footpaths at night.
• Lighting: To take all legal options for lighting the footpaths and marking them.
• Financial justification: To prepare a financial justification from the municipal administration for possible legal claims against the Municipality, related to the poor condition of road markings and lack of lighting.

Hadjivat suggests that the City Council urgently convene a Traffic Safety Commission to discuss the proposed measures and draw up an action plan.

The Municipal Council is expected to consider the report at its next meeting on April 25.
