The mayor of Blagoevgrad, Metodi Baikushev, welcomed representatives of the “Strumsko” district to his office to discuss in detail pressing problems and current topics. After the meeting, an important decision was made, which the mayor announced officially. The mayor announced that municipal housing and a social complex will not be built in the neighborhood, but a modern park, which the residents need. Here is what Mayor M. Baikushev shared:

A few days after my visit to the k. “Strumsko”, representatives from the neighborhood met again in the mayor’s office.
We will not build municipal housing and a social complex in the area. We made this decision together after discussing all the arguments. The people of the neighborhood need green spaces, places for recreation and sports, and above all, playgrounds.
So my team and I will work to build of a new modern neighborhood park with underground parking underneath. We will apply for funding under the European program “Development of the Regions”. If the project is approved, the parking lot will ease traffic, free up space and allow us to turn “brown spots” into pleasant inter-block spaces. In addition, for the period of sustainability, parking will be free for citizens – this is the condition of the program.
Those living in one of the largest neighborhoods of Blagoevgrad deserve to have better conditions and a better urban environment.
Blagoevgrad Municipality will look for other suitable sites for buildings for social services and municipal housing, which are of great importance for vulnerable groups and disadvantaged people.
I thank the representatives from the municipality. Strumsko for the constructive conversation!
When civil society is awake, every municipality can move forward.
I fulfill my promise to hold meetings in all districts and villages in the municipality. I have already visited Tserovo, Elenovo, Izgrev and Strumsko. My meetings with the townspeople continue.
