Svetla Andreeva presented her book “Death before New Birth”
In the “Slaveiche” Library and Information Center at the “Petko R. Slaveikov” Regional Library, the new book by the Tarnovo author Svetla Andreeva “Death before Birth” was presented.
The Eagel Foreign Language Center, which hosted the meeting, welcomed friends and readers of the author. They had the pleasure of getting to know her work, which houses 11 stories with a criminal plot.
The literary critic and editor of the publication Vladimir Shumelov shared his impressions of the collection. The guests of the event were introduced to the plot with a kind of interview of the author and his character – Dragolyub Mihailov, whose daily life is filled with the investigation of various criminal cases – from theft to murder.
At the end of the meeting, the author herself – Svetla Andreeva, exchanged her place with investigator Mihailov, becoming the hero in a short interview. In it, she shared her personal thoughts.
Tsanko Lalev was welcomed at “American College – Arkus” and at SU “Emilian Stanev”
As part of the ninth edition of “Foyer of the Book with Autograph” 2024, the writer Tsanko Lalev visited Veliko Tarnovo to present his novel “The House of the Bees”. He had an exciting meeting and conversation with students from “American College – Arcus”.
“The House of the Bees” is a continuous game between the tense present and the Middle Ages in Bulgaria from the time of the first Asenevs and the capture of Constantinople by the Latins. And although the story turns out to be exactly what they learned in class, the two young men discover a frightening difference. In this parallel world, the werewolves and werewolves of folklore are not fiction, but real creatures. If there is a door between times, will you dare to open it?
A day later, the writer Tsanko Lalev visited the 8th, 9th and 10th grade students of Emilian Stanev Secondary School. The author revealed a metaphor for what “The House of Bees” is really like, what prompted him to write the novel and why he tells about reality and fantasy in parallel.
The publishing house “Hermes” was also presented to the students from the two schools in Tarn by Mrs. Desislava Dobreva.
Volume 4 of the “Bulgarian National History” series was presented
In the reading room of RB “P. R. Slaveykov” – V. Tarnovo, the newly released volume 4 of the “Bulgarian National History” series entitled “Byzantine Rule and the Era of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1018 – mid- XV century)”.
Prof. Dr. Plamen Pavlov, one of the book’s authors, and one of the most authoritative Bulgarian historians, author of more than 400 articles, studies, textbooks, encyclopedic publications and books, introduced us to the publication and its contents.
Guests at the meeting were Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, rector of the University of Veliko Tarnovo “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, the vice-rectors Prof. Dr. Nikolay Kanev and Assoc. Dr. Anna Ivanova.
Prof. Milko Palangurski, Prof. Dr. Krasimira Mutafova and other university professors and students were also present in the audience.

Prof. Plamen Doinov’s new book and presentation of his new book “Besides terror. Modeling of the new writer of the NRB (1944-1956)” was presented by Prof. Ivan Stankov in the reading room of the NRB “P. R. Slaveikov”. Guests of the event were professors at Veliko Tarnovo University “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, students, literary critics, etc.
The book traces events and processes, analyzes models and mechanisms through which the social image of the new writer in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria emerged, created and reshaped between 1944 and 1956. A book about the multifaceted presence of terror in Bulgarian literature, but also about figures, shadows , words and actions, measured behind his bloody curtain in an amalgam of repressions, fears, privileges, Marxist-Leninist enlightenment, writing on party-state orders, planned state book publishing, censorship bans and permits, official honors, etc.
