Three people received a chance for a second life after a donor situation on April 19, realized by a team of UMBALSM “N. I. Pirogov”, with coordinator Dr. Hristo Hristov. This became possible after the relatives of a brain-dead 59-year-old man nobly decided to donate his organs in order to give life to other completely unknown people.
Thanks to them saying “yes”, on April 20, doctors at the Military Medical Academy transplanted the liver of a 49-year-old man, and at the “Alexandrovska” UMBAL, two medical teams transplanted the kidneys of a 64-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man.
According to information from the medical facilities, the patients are in good general condition and remain under medical supervision in the intensive care units. The other organs were not suitable for transplantation.
“The Ministry of Health and the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” offer their sincere condolences to the man’s relatives and express their gratitude and respect for the noble decision taken at a difficult time to save human lives. They also express their gratitude to the teams of the medical institutions involved in the process of donation and transplantation”, reports the IAMN.
