It is a bit unusual to have elections six times in three years, but this demonstrates that Bulgarian democracy is very viable, stated in an interview for bTV the ambassador of Germany to our country Irene Maria Plank.

She admitted, however, that there is also a lack of stability, which is not good for the state.”

Plank added that in her travels around the country in recent months, people everywhere, regardless of their political preferences, were saying, “Thank God we have a government.”

“Bulgarians want a stable government, and Europe wants the government in Bulgaria to be more stable. I look forward to seeing what the results of the upcoming elections will be and I hope that together with the Bulgarians we will have more stability after them,” the ambassador added.

Plank emphasized that for Germany, Bulgaria is a “trusted friend” in the region and relies on our country.

The ambassador of the Federal Republic in our country also commented on the tension between Israel and Iran, which has escalated in recent weeks. According to her, a possible full-scale war in the Middle East will have serious economic consequences for the whole of Europe – higher oil prices.

“The world is trying to calm this tension. The German Foreign Minister Mrs. Annalena Berbock visited the region again – she has already traveled to this region 7 times since October 7 (the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas). We also work closely with our European partners – the NATO allies,” said Plank.

It did not commit to a forecast on whether a further increase in fuel prices is expected. “I think Europe is in very good shape to handle it. The relative share of renewable energy sources has increased a lot – that’s the way. Let’s also keep the prices of the basic products stable,” said Plank.

She gave an example of how the Federal Republic is dealing with the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus and the war in Ukraine: “Germany, which in 2024 was fourth in terms of industrial production, has now risen to third place. I’m sure we will come out stronger and bigger than the situation.”
