Today begins the 38th Music Festival “Golden Diana” in Yambol. Until April 25, the city will be the capital of classical music. Founded by maestro Nikolay Sultanov in 1968, the music forum continues to attract the best soloists, the organizers from Yambol Municipality and Dianopolis Chamber Orchestra announced. The four musical evenings will be in the “Bezisten” cultural and information center.
The highlight of this year’s musical festivities is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Bulgarian conductor and composer Konstantin Iliev, and two of the concerts will feature his works. The “Golden Diana” will also go under the sign of “return to the beginning”, since this year it will again be an entirely chamber festival, concert master and artistic director of “Dianopolis” Krasimira Sultanova told BTA.
According to tradition, “Golden Diana” will be opened by the hosts from “Dianopolis” tonight. Works by Bach, Mozart and Delibes will be played. The concert will be conducted by maestro Gancho Ganchev, and he himself will perform the piano solo. The guest soloist will be the world-famous violinist Micho Dimitrov. The concert will be with the special participation of the graduates of the Choir School “Prof. Georgi Dimitrov” with conductor Vesela Pastermadzhieva.
On April 23, a chamber concert will be performed by the three renowned musicians Prof. Georgita Boyadzhieva-Nikolova (cello), Dr. Rosen Idealov (clarinet) and Yambol-born Vladimir Valchev (piano). They are solo and chamber performers in various ensembles, but on the occasion of the “Golden Diana” Music Festival, they will perform as a trio. The program will feature works by Johannes Brahms, Mikhail Glinka, Balash Sunyog and Konstantin Iliev.
On April 24, the Ukrainian virtuoso Mihael Babich will be a guest, who will perform a unique creative feat with the performance of three of the six extremely difficult suites for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. “That’s very rare to hear. He arrives from Vienna especially for the “Golden Diana”, said the head of “Dianopolis” Krasimira Sultanova.
“Golden Diana” will be closed by the musicians from the Gabrovo Chamber Orchestra with a concert conducted by Ivan Stoyanov and soloist Denitsa Dimitrova (harp) from the Sofia Opera. Works by Konstantin Iliev, Vasil Kazandzhiev, Claude Debussy, Francois Boaldeau and Alfred Schnittke will be performed.
