Hosts of the Erasmus+ project A better me for a better us are Zheleznik Secondary School, and the activity of the visit is social and environmental awareness.

In the municipal hall P. R. Slaveikov the deputy mayor with portfolio Education and youth activities Nadezhda Chakarova welcomed a group of students between the ages of 14-19 from Bulgaria, Romania, Spain and Turkey, the director of the SU Railwayman Petya Lazarova and Erasmus+ project managers Plamena Dineva and Zinaida Cherneva. The head of department was also part of the event Education Stanimira Dimitrova, as well as experts from the department Vanya Tosheva and Yanitsa Bakoeva.

Welcome to Stara Zagora, dear guests. The A better me for a better us project is of exceptional value and this is the way to contribute to good practices – educational, environmental, etc., as well as to inform young people about environmental protection and the advantages of the education system. I believe it will be extremely useful for everyone, Nadezhda Chakarova welcomed the guests at the beginning of the meeting. She congratulated the school management for the good and active work.

Erasmus projects provide some of the best opportunities for young people and I hope that, in addition to everything included in the program, you will be able to get to know the cultural and historical heritage of Stara Zagora, the natural features and combine the useful with the pleasantadded the deputy mayor.

The director of SU Railwayman Petya Lazarova thanked for the hospitality and the time spent talking to the young people. The participants received gifts from the Municipality of Stara Zagora – souvenirs related to the history of the city.

The purpose of the project won by SU Railwaymanis to develop key competencies, physical and mental health, awareness about the environment and the fight against climate change, increasing the personal development of students and focusing on self-esteem and confidence, etc.

The students are selected from each partner institution, with priority given to those facing economic challenges, coming from disadvantaged areas, raised by only one parent or without parents.

The group has a five-day program in which they visited museums in the city, the Zoo, University of Thrace, Proto-Bulgarian Survival School Bagatur, outdoor sports grounds, etc. The youth and the teachers participated in a workshop, creating with waste materials, got to know each other through games and learned about the school’s activities through a talk.

On the last day, they will discuss the topic of the fight against prejudice and participate in an educational game Let’s help the Earth breathe in the escape room, as well as the exciting experience of writing a letter with a message for the future, which they will place in the roots of one of the four trees they will plant.
