A proposal has been submitted to the municipal council in Pazardzhik – that municipal councilors receive 20 percent of the mayor’s salary, not the currently planned 45 percent. If the proposal is accepted, the monthly remuneration of the councilors in the local parliament will not exceed BGN 1,000.
The topic became relevant after the municipal councilors increased the salary of the mayor of Pazardzhik from 2,500 to 4,900 BGN. According to the regulations, this automatically increased the salary of the chairman of the municipal council, which is 90 percent of the mayor’s salary.
The proposal to reduce the remuneration of ordinary municipal councilors to 20 percent was made by municipal councilor Nikolay Pandezov from the “Development for Pazardzhik” group. The reason is that the municipality is in a difficult financial situation. The petitioner has calculated that by reducing the money of the advisers, more than 2 million BGN will be saved over the four-year period.
In the local parliament, there are opponents of the idea of reducing the salaries of municipal councilors from BGN 2,000 to BGN 1,000. The proposal will be discussed on April 25, when there is a regular meeting of the municipal council.
