The nominations for the “Varna” Award in the field of culture for 2024 were unanimously approved by the relevant committee of the Municipal Council.

The grand prize this year goes to Dimitar Traichev for his overall creativity and his indisputable contribution to establishing high artistic standards in the visual culture of Varna.

In the “Literature” section it is nominated Krasimir Mashev for his book “Mud Baths”, published in 2023, in which he describes the heroes of the transition. Fine Arts Award Winner Hristo Hristovwhich in 2023 will successfully present its jubilee exhibition in Varna, Plovdiv and Germany, contributing to the establishment of a positive image for our city.

In the “Theatre” section, the individual award is shared by the actors Konstantin Sokolov and Maria Tomova. The actor from the Drama Theater “Stoyan Bachvarov” – Varna was awarded for his exceptional acting skills in the construction of the image of the shoemaker Peter in the performance “The Boot”. The young actress is nominated for her captivating portrayal of Pippi in Pippi Longstocking. The collective award goes to the team of the State Puppet Theater – Varna for the successful implementation and impressive acting work in the musical “Peter Pan”.

Nominated in the category “Opera” (performing arts). The Symphony Orchestra of the State Opera – Varna for high professional mastery and artistic achievements in symphonic concerts – “100 years since the birth of Dobrin Petkov”, “Fifth Symphony” – Mahler, “On the eve of the Nativity of Christ”.

Among the prize winners are their colleagues from the ballet troupe at the State Opera – Varna. They receive recognition for high artistic achievements in the new choreographic edition of the ballet performance “Romeo and Juliet”.

The journalist Zoya Cheresharova – Mihailova from RTVC – Varna was nominated in the “Cinema” section for her work as the author of the documentary “Flight to Dreams…”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Varna Children’s and Youth Opera.

In the “Journalism” section, the award goes to the photojournalist Plamen Gutinov for his exceptional photo exhibition “The pulse of the city” and at the team of the BTA Correspondence Bureau for the intensive coverage of the cultural and public life of Varna and on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the Agency.

The awards will traditionally be presented on the eve of May 24. Before that, the nominees for the award must also receive the approval of the Municipal Council.
