The District Court in Targovishte remanded a defendant in custody for drug possession with intent to distribute

--

After accepting as well-founded the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Targovishte, the District Court determined the most severe measure of remand – “detention in custody” against a 32-year-old defendant for possession of narcotic substances without proper permission for the purpose of distribution. The man with the initials H.P. has been brought to criminal liability for a crime under Article 354a, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code (PC), announced the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Varna.
The man was detained on April 18 of this year, after a dry grassy mass was found in him during a police check. The field test done reacted to marijuana, and the amount initially measured was about 70 grams. An examination was appointed, which aims to show the exact amount of marijuana and the percentage content of a narcotic substance in it.
H.P. is well known to law enforcement and prosecutors. He was already convicted of the same crime in 2022 and the present act was committed while on probation for his previous conviction.
By decree of the prosecutor overseeing the case, the man was detained for a period of up to 72 hours with a view to bringing him before the court to determine a measure of remand.
