The choir of girls and women from Varna at the Choir School “Prof. Marin Chonev” of the Municipality of Varna should bear the name of maestro Zaharina Milkova. This was voted by the members of the Culture Commission of the local parliament at their meeting on the initiative of current and former choristers, as well as other creative personalities from Varna.
The choir, one of the three ensembles within the “Prof. Marin Chonev” choral school, was founded in 1976, and from 1981 to 2022, it was invariably led by Zaharina Milkova – Nikitasova.
Maestra Milkova will remain in the history of Varna as a person who devoted her entire professional life to the promotion of the Varna choral art in the world and in our country, which is why her name deserves to be remembered with respect. “We believe that in this way we will keep Zaharina Milkova’s work alive and this will give a new creative boost to our self-made composition,” argue the proponents of the proposal.
The councilors also approved placing a bust monument of Lyuben Karavelov in the courtyard of the school of the same name. In 2022, SU “Lyuben Karavelov” celebrated its 60th anniversary. On this occasion, the teaching staff and the student council initiated the placement of a bust – a monument to their patron in the school yard. The author of the project is the famous Varna sculptor Zhivko Donchev, who created the sculptural figure of the mayor Mihail Koloni. The project has gone through all the necessary procedures. After the approval of the initiative by the Municipal Council – Varna, the final coordination of the project for the monument to Lyuben Karavelov with the Ministry of Culture is pending.
Among the topics of today’s meeting was the financing of the projects under the “Culture” fund. Councilors voted for eligible expenses to accept expenses incurred by the organizations before the conclusion of the co-financing agreement with the fund, but only on the condition that the projects are approved.
A call for project proposals is currently underway. The deadline is May 12 inclusive, and the approved candidates will become clear in the middle of the year.
