The Department of Electrical Engineering celebrated its 50th anniversary

The “Electroenergetics” department at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technical University in Varna solemnly celebrated its 50th anniversary with an elegant celebration on April 20, 2024 in the “Impression” hall of the International Hotel, k.c. Golden Sands.

The celebration was graced by more than 400 graduates of the department from various graduations, a number of representatives of institutions, academia, class organizations and industry partners. Honorary seats in the hall were reserved for veterans of the department who received honorary plaques from the university for their contribution to the development of the Department of Electric Power Engineering in the field of science and practice over the years.

The awards were presented personally by Prof. Dr. Dragomir Plamenov, rector of the Technical University – Varna, noting: “Undoubtedly, the success of the Department of Power Engineering in its half-century of development is due to the work and achievements of its teachers and scientific teams, who left traces in education, science and industry of the country. The fact is the nearly 2,000 students – masters and bachelors – energy engineers that the department has prepared and given to the country. I congratulate the doyens who created the great scientific school and let’s give them the deserved recognition. I also thank all the representatives of the partner companies, who always engage with diligence and passion and support the development of students and their training in the department, so that we can say that the connection: education – science – business really exists in this field. “

Some of the first teachers were awarded with honors – Prof. Dr. Eng. Krum Gerasimov, Prof. Dr. Eng. Stefan Barudov, Assoc. Dr. Eng. Kolyo Tasev, Assoc. Dr. Eng. Stoyan Andreev, Assoc. Angel Vrangov, Ph.D., Todor Ivanov, Ph.D., Yordan Ivanov, Ph.D., and the current head of the department, Nikolay Nikolaev, Ph.D., Eng. Most of them shared memories of the foundation, the first steps and the growth of the department and wished success and inspiration to the current teachers in their work with young people.

Welcoming speeches to the audience were presented by Prof. Dr. Eng. Yulian Rangelov, dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and by the deputy in the 49th National Assembly – Prof. Dr. Eng. Mediha Hamza, a graduate and former deputy dean of the faculty, and Assoc. Ph.D. Eng. Nikolay Nikolaev, head of the department, made a charming historical retrospective about the role and importance of the department for the preparation of thousands of students over the years.

He also presented numerous jubilee plaques to the “Electroenergetics” department to distinguished professors, former managers and all business partners who actively help students gain practical experience. Awards were given to the representatives of the companies: Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant EAD, ERP-North, ERP – Golden Sands, Electric Energy System Operator, Elektra – Burgas, SolarPro Holding, TPP Maritsa Iztok 2, PS Electric, Agropolichem AD, Elektromontazhi Varna OOD, AES Bulgaria, VestasBulgaria, National Electric Company, VPD Bulgaria, with the assistance of which the event was held. The numerous congratulatory addresses from various branch organizations and from the academic community of TU – Varna, as well as from other universities in Bulgaria, were read.
