Interim reporting meeting of the national scientific program “Intelligent Plant Breeding” is held at the University of Rousse – Rousse.Info

Today, April 22, 2024, in room 2.101 of the University of Ruse, an interim report meeting on the national program “Intelligent Plant Breeding” was opened. The event is organized by the University of Rousse “Angel Kanchev” and is dedicated to the presentation of progress in the various components of the program.

The conference was opened by the rector of the university Prof. Dr. Eng. Plamen Kangalov, who welcomed the participants.

“We are proud and happy to take on the role of hosts of this important event. Each of us, who is part of Ruse University, diligently and committedly applies our knowledge, skills and efforts in the common mission to develop and offer innovations in the field of plant breeding. We are very satisfied with the results achieved and the progress so far. This success is due to the close cooperation that allows us to work efficiently and reach new scientific discoveries and applied solutions. Let us continue to be motivated and engaged in our common mission, work purposefully and strive for new heights in the development of intelligent plant breeding. This is the key to the modernization and sustainable development of our agriculture, which is essential for the future of our country,” said Prof. Dr. Eng. Plamen Kangalov.

The Chairman of the General Assembly Academician Hristo Beloev – honorary rector of the university presented the Ruse Alma Mater to the guests, noting that the research activity is focused on seven directions and this is the new direction in which the university has started. Intelligent agriculture is one of the seven directions that the university is developing. We have the opportunity to communicate, discuss and draw future goals. We must move forward together and united, cooperate and look for new opportunities for work, as well as wish for future such national programs and projects, Academician Beloev also said.

Moderator of the event is Prof. Dr. Vladislav Popov, coordinator of the NNP “Intelligent plant breeding of the Ministry of Education and Culture. He emphasized that one of the interesting and useful topics in the conference program is the visit to the center of Ruse University, which deals with digitalization in agricultural production.

Among the guests at the event was Prof. Dr. Hristina Yancheva, chairwoman of the executive board of the national program, who welcomed the participants and pointed out that the program has achieved results that will benefit the entire society. There are developed patents and technologies that will be offered to businesses.

On the first day of the conference, key topics related to digital, IoT and robotic technologies in crop production, diagnostics and forecasting with artificial intelligence, intelligent systems for managing agricultural processes and the role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies were presented. A discussion was also held where the activities of communication and dissemination of scientific results were discussed. The conference attracted significant interest from scientific institutions, specialists in the field of plant breeding and digital technologies, as well as students and pupils.

The conference will continue on April 23, when the participants will have the opportunity to learn about digital innovations at the University of Ruse. Prof. Dr. Angel Smrikarov will present “The digitization of Ruse University – challenges and innovations”. Participants will visit various labs and centers, including labs for sustainable smart agriculture, 3D design and modeling, and a digital museum exhibit.

The event will end with a meeting of the Executive Board of the program, where organizational issues and the next steps in the implementation of the program will be discussed.
