Two drivers were arrested over the weekend in Vidin, sitting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol, a reporter told “Focus”. They have been held in custody for up to 24 hours, reported the Regional Directorate (OD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Vidin.

During a check by the police officers in the village of Drenovets and testing with a drager, the sample of a 46-year-old man from the capital, who was driving his personal car, reported 2.09 per thousand. He also gave a blood sample for testing at the branch for emergency medical assistance in Belogradchik.

In the other case, the uniformed officers stopped a 47-year-old man from the village of Kutovo for inspection. When tested with a drager, his sample read 1.30 per thousand. The man also gave a blood sample for testing at the Center for Emergency Medical Assistance in Vidin.

The vehicles were duly seized and repatriated for safekeeping at a Ministry of Internal Affairs base in the regional city. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, the ODMVR-Vidin specifies.

In 2023, according to data from the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Vidin, there were 56 registered cases of driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol above 1.2 per thousand. This is a decrease of 15.2 percent compared to 2022.
