5 years in prison was ordered by the court in Kyustendil for the death of three people in an accident

The court in Kyustendil ordered five years of imprisonment for the accused for causing the death of three people after a traffic accident, the court in Kyustendil announced. The court recognized the accused R.I. (62 years old) for being guilty of having violated traffic rules by overtaking on October 2, 2022 in the territory of the village of Novi Chiflik, Kyustendil municipality, on a second-class road between the villages of Novi Chiflik and Bagrentsi, while driving a car , as a result of which he recklessly caused the death of three persons and bodily injury to two others.

The Court shall deduct the time during which R.I. was placed under house arrest from February 2, 2023 until the execution of the sentence.

R.I. was sentenced to pay the costs incurred in the case, nearly BGN 8 thousand. The verdict can be protested or appealed before the Sofia Court of Appeal within 15 days.

As a result of the serious traffic accident, the death of the driver of a vehicle moving towards R.I. car and elderly parents traveling with the driver. A motorcyclist traveling after R.I.’s car was injured, as well as the accused’s wife, the court told BTA.
