The characters from the story “The Peach Thief” by Emilian Stanev come to life in a new premiere performance at the “Konstantin Kisimov” Music and Drama Theater in Veliko Tarnovo.
The creative idea belongs to director Boyko Iliev, who is also the author of the stage adaptation of the text, the cultural institution announced. Rehearsals for the production in the Veliko Tarnovo Theater began two weeks ago. The performance will be presented for the first time to the public on May 22.
Artist Nikol Trendafilova worked on the scenography and costumes, and Petar Atanaschev prepared original music for the play. The role of the strict colonel in the play will be performed by Veselin Kalanovski. Actress Polina Petkova will play the role of Elisaveta in the play. The young actor Boris Atanasov, who is the newest addition to the theater’s dramatic cast, will make his debut on the Veliko Tarnovo stage in the role of Serbian prisoner of war Ivo Obretenovic. Actors Stefka Zlatkova, Detelin Kandev, Stefan Metodiev also take part in the play.
The story “The Peach Thief” is among the emblematic works of Emilian Stanev, which takes place in Veliko Tarnovo in the period after the First World War. The characters from the story come to life for the first time in the film of the same name by Valo Radev, and it features iconic names of Bulgarian cinema, including Nevena Kokanova, Naum Shopov, Serbian actor Rade Markovic and others.
