“I hope that the visits and educational meetings held repeatedly with judges in the District Court – Varna during the current school year have helped you to better understand our work and to form your own, true assessment of it,” said judge Magdalena Davidova.
She specifically addressed the participants in the debates, advising them not to stop there: “Keep learning, be interested and develop this knowledge. Regardless of whether you choose to continue your education in the field of law or in any other field, at in all cases, a good legal culture will always be your advantage, it will open up opportunities for you to better protect your interests, to make correct and objective decisions as citizens”.
The debates themselves between the four teams from the 10th and 12th grades of the V EG took place in two rounds, and according to the regulations and the lot drawn on the spot before the five-member jury, in the first stage the teams presented their arguments “for” and “against” the topics “Should the use of marijuana be legalized?” and “For or against early marriages, i.e. before the age of 18?”.
The winners of the first round debated in the final competition on the topic “For or against the “home office” as a workplace”, and the disputed first place was taken by a team of 12th graders with contestants Yasmina Bizri, Hristina Trifonova and Julian Ivanov. The first-placed and second-placed team of 10th graders of the Fifth Language High School received certificates and subject prizes for their good performance.
For the finale, the jury and participants took a photo together, and the Deputy President of the District Court – Varna, Ralitsa Raykova, presented certificates to all participants and their teacher Petranka Kostadinova, who, apart from the organized debates on legal topics, actively visited the court during the school year and participated in the meetings held under the educational program “The Judiciary – informed choice and civil trust.
