The expert from the European Commission Nikolay Gerchev, Doctor of Economic Sciences, gave a lecture at the University of Economics in Varna. He was personally invited by Assoc. Dr. Stoyan Kirov, head of the “Finance” department at the oldest economic university in Bulgaria.

Dr. Gerchev specialized in the field of monetary theory at the Paris II Panthéon-Assas University. His scholarly contributions have been published in the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, the Journal of Libertarian Studies, and the Libertarian Papers. Since 2007, he has been working for the European Commission, in particular on the construction and follow-up of reforms in the banking sectors of various member countries (Ireland, Cyprus and Greece after the global financial crisis). Since 2020, he has been lecturing on financial regulation in the European Union for the Master’s Degree in Law and Finance at the University of Angers, France. Last year, the publishing house Lexington Books (Rowman&Littlefield) published his book “Development of banking regulation in the European Union: an economic approach”. Dr. Gerchev introduced the students of the University of Economics in Varna to the main content of his book in an open lecture today.
