“Bulgaria will continue to support the efforts of the EU and NATO to secure Ukraine with all the necessary equipment, training and capacity building, with the aim of strengthening its defense capabilities,” said Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov today at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg. The main topic was Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, reported by Ministry of Defense.
To the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers of Defense of the Member States of the European Union (EU) Atanas Zapryanov called for an inclusive approach involving the defense industries of all member states. His words are in connection with the new European program for defense industry, which also foresees financial incentives from the European budget.
Zapryanov presented information on the military aid delivered by Bulgaria in the past year, which continues in 2024. According to data from a recent review additional quantities of surplus armaments will be determined.
Additionally, Bulgaria is ready to provide training on its territory to infantry units and combat medics, in order to support Ukraine within the framework of the EU Military Mission. English language training is now being provided to Ukrainian servicemen, the ministry said.
“The European Instrument for Peace is an important political tool that we must continue to use in our support for Ukraine,” the minister emphasized.
He welcomed the importance of the EU’s long-term security and defense commitments to Ukraine, which will contribute to the strengthening and resilience of the country in the post-war period as well.
