Officials from the “Fisheries and Control” sector – Dobrich, together with the GPU – Kavarna, carried out a routine inspection with a patrol boat in the waters of the Black Sea in the area of Durankulak and Krapetsreported the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture.

During the breeding period and the ban on turbot fishing, the inspectors established 4 nets, 400 meters long.

The turbot fish caught (16 kg.) was returned to the waters of the Black Sea.

Maritime.bg reminds that from April 15, 2024, the ban on catching fish and other aquatic organisms during their reproduction period came into force. The ban has been introduced for the Black Sea, the Danube River and inland water bodies.

In the current year 2024, by order of the Minister of Agriculture, the fishing of gobies (Alosa immaculata) is prohibited from 01.05.2024 to 31.05.2024 inclusive, in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River and for gobies (Gobiidae) from 15.04.2024 until 15.05.2024 inclusive, in the waters of the Black Sea.

The ban on turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) fishing is from 15.04.2024 to 15.06.2024 inclusive. In relation to turbot, in this period, apart from any fishing activity and transshipment, retention on board, landing and first sale, in accordance with Council Regulation (EU) 2024/259 of 10 January 2024 determining the fishing opportunities for 2024, it is prohibited of certain fish stocks and groups of fish stocks applicable in the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.

For all other spring-summer breeding fish, fishing bans depend on the altitude of the water bodies according to the periods defined in Appendix No. 1 of the EPA.

The order also extends the ban on catching whitefish (Sander lucioperca), pike (Esox lucius) and bream (Aspius aspius) in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River until 31.05.2024, including for the purpose of protecting the spring-summer population breeding carp, catfish and other heat-loving fish in the river and reducing their bycatch.

It is important for anglers that recreational fishing is permitted during the prohibition period. A list of water bodies free for fishing in 2024 by district can be found in the order.

From May 1 to July 31, a ban on catching white sand mussels of the species Donax trunculus and Chamelea gallina in the Bulgarian waters of the Black Sea is introduced.
