Two new cases of children with whooping cough have been registered on the territory of Plovdiv, a reporter was told Plovdiv24.bg Dr. Milena Panayotova, director of the Directorate “Supervision of Infectious Diseases” at the RZI – Plovdiv.

One of the sick children is a girl from Asenovgrad, but studies at “Dimitar Matevski” Secondary School in Plovdiv, and the other sick child is a boy studying at “Chernorizets Hrabar” Secondary School. The two children are 12 years old.

Children are completely immune, and their disease is mild at home. They are on antibiotic treatment. Dr. Panayotova specified that the classes of the sick children were quarantined.

They are subject to medical supervision during the incubation period, which is 14 days.

She shared that the symptoms were associated with a dry, irritating cough that lasted for more than 2 weeks.

“In people with immunity, it’s not as dramatic as in non-immunized people, so maybe some people have it with a mild cough, but they can still spread the disease.”

Dr. Panayotova added that an increase in whooping cough cases is expected in the Plovdiv region in the coming weeks.
