“Conservatives are telling us how the world is going from failure to failure and there is no other way unless we give them the power to govern to slam on the brakes to restore, what?, some Christian values and some natural state of things. This state of nature is, first, a battle of each against each, and second, a state of natural inequalities. People are born different and we should sit where we are different, where we were born and any policies that are related to, for example, expanding the chances of some people who had the misfortune of being born in a more disadvantaged position , are blocked by this conservatism,” says sociologist Mila Mineva – lecturer in the “Sociology” department of Sofia University, member of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Sociological Association. Today, she is a guest of Dr. Deyan Kyuranov in the show “Visible and Invisible: A place to think”. “I’m going to try to define as a neocon Trump who tells us what? It tells us that America is going bad, but at the same time that the economic status quo should actually be maintained, ie. it must retain its privileges and deny all other people the opportunity for development.’

The sociologist recalls that the classic liberal idea of equality is to make the public authority so that it gives an equal chance for a start in life, i.e. to be able to equalize those who start from higher with those who start from lower, for example equal quality education for all.

You can watch Dr. Deyan Kyuranov’s entire conversation with Mila Mineva in the video:

Mineva finds the situation in Bulgaria extremely interesting. “One of the things I think is important to talk about this new conservatism is that it’s about stories that are global and that travel around the world. The thing is that these global plots in places are reworked so that they work locally, in the local. So they are some glocal interpretations of conservatism that we get. What we see in Bulgaria is a very curious assembly between BSP, nationalists, PP Vazrazhdane and the new movement of Kuzman Iliev “Bulgaria can” and it is a strange mixture, which is united by several things. It is first united by exploiting people’s fears. In fact, he first created these fears – genders, migrants, globalization – and all this is told as an opportunity to return to a pre-globalization status quo, where we are ourselves and we are very cool. […] From the point of view of the new conservatives, they are also very strongly nationalistic. One of the accusations is that liberals are bastards, globalists, terrible things. And they will return the love for the Bulgarian people, as it is, in all its inequalities, i.e. if someone thinks they’re going to be very proud while earning minimum wage, let them be proud, let them choose that version of conservatism.”
