The district court in Kyustendil ordered five years in prison for a man who caused a serious road accident that killed three people from the same family. When serving the sentence, he has no right to drive a motor vehicle for the same period, BNR reported.

The case is from October 2, 2022, as parliamentary elections were held on that day.

In the section between the villages of Novi chiflik and Bagrentsi on the Kyustendil-Dupnitsa road, while driving a car, the 63-year-old man R.I. violated the traffic rules.

He overtook, not having good visibility and not judging the distance when crossing into the oncoming lane, during which he hit a car in which elderly people from the nearby village of Eremia were traveling.

The car was driven by their son. Three people from the same family died in the accident, and two were injured.

Drivers commented at the time that the section is dangerous, straight, about 2-3 kilometers, without the necessary visibility for oncoming traffic, and video surveillance cameras should be installed.

The other problem is that in the direction to Nevestino, quite a few elderly drivers are moving to the villages, who drive at a slow speed, and this creates conflict situations, there is also an intense traffic of TIRs that have to wait, and queues are formed.

The verdict can be protested or appealed before the Sofia Court of Appeal within 15 days.
