Young people planted 5 Japanese cherry trees in Alley of the Wakers – Business Post

Starting today, April 22, when we celebrate Earth Day, 5 Japanese cherry trees marked the beginning of the Alley of the Wakers in Stara Zagorje Park “St. Ignatius Starozagorski” (“Piperka” bath park). The trees were planted by young people who participated in training for young leaders on the topic “Integrity, development and success through civic activism” under the project of MMC – “International Youth Center – think locally, act globally”.

The initiative to create the Alley of Alarm Clocks was born as part of the ideas for positive civic activism and was carried out under the leadership of the mayor of Mlada Zagora Nikola Kirilov, a participant in the training. The afforestation campaign was discussed at his meeting with the deputy mayors of Stara Zagora municipality Milena Zheleva, Nadezhda Chakarova and Radostin Tanev on March 6, 2024, and they expressed their unconditional support and assisted in its implementation.

Today, the five Japanese cherry trees were planted by five young people – Nikola Kirilov, Ioana Popova, Emma Stancheva, Raya Tomova and Denitsa Dimitrova, deputy chairman of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The trees in the Alley of Wakers are located in a symbolic place – in the southern part of the park, oriented to the street perpendicular to the beautiful garden “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”.

The young people, participants in the training “Integrity, development and success through civic activism” express special gratitude to Bilyana Dimitrova, chief expert in the Department of “Ecology, Greening and Forests” in the Municipality of Stara Zagora and employees who assisted in providing the trees, digging the holes and tips in reforestation. The type of trees – Japanese cherry, were chosen according to the overall landscape vision of the area.

The youth made a firm commitment to water the Japanese cherry trees and monitor their development. The important thing is that they are planted with love and youthful enthusiasm, landscaping experts were adamant.

We believe that the Japanese cherry trees will delight all the residents of Stara Zagora and guests of the city with their beautiful colors and will be just the beginning of the Alley of the Wakers, which will remind of the work of hundreds of patriotic Bulgarian educators.

We remind you that in the park “St. Ignatius of Starozagorski” a monument to the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius is about to be erected.
