1A 4-year-old woman was tied by the limbs while she was being treated in a hospital in Vidin. This is claimed by her relatives, who were not allowed to see her during her stay in the medical facility.

After the woman was discharged, her relatives saw bruises on her body. The patient was admitted to the internal medicine department on April 17.

On the air of NOVA the victim’s grandson, Emil Trifonov, said that the woman was left at the hospital without an escort. Her relatives only received information about her condition and, since there were no sightings.

“After she was discharged she had lost weight, we saw that there were bruises behind her wrists and on her legs. When my mother arrived at the hospital, upon discharge, she saw that one of her hands was tied.”, said Trifonov. He added that the woman had complained about her stay at the medical facility.

Dr. Bogdan Tomov, deputy director of the medical facility, explained that the patient was psychomotorically agitated at times during the treatment.

“Temporary physical restraint measures have been put in place to allow treatment to take place. This has been done temporarily,” he said.

According to him, the skin changes, which are said to be due to the fact that the woman was tied, do not correspond to the localization of the places that were the subject of treatment.

Most likely, this is due to skin and trophic changes associated with severe accompanying diseases. The patient was treated according to medical standards and the accusations are unfounded,” Tomov said.

No violence was shown to the 104-year-old patient in the Vidin hospital. In view of age, the skin is more sensitive, the blood vessels are more fragile, and when applying abacates, these blue spots are observed. This is what the director of the Multispecialty Hospital for Active Treatment “St. Petka” Dr. Iveta Naydenova.

District Prosecutor’s Office-Vidin self-reported on social media posts and national media alleging that a 104-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital in the city, where she was tied up and denied food and water.

In the case, an investigation has been commissioned by the RU-Vidin, taking information from all persons familiar with the case, including the medical staff and doctors who cared for the patient.

It is ordered to request all medical documentation from the medical facility, to establish, by taking a report from the attending physician, the condition of the elderly woman at the time she was admitted to the hospital and after discharge, to request information from the IA “Medical Supervision” whether the agency is investigating the case and what the results are.

According to Naydenova, the patient was fed and given water. One of her arms was fixed because of the systems. There was another patient in the room.

The elderly woman was admitted on a scheduled basis, and on the first day there really were no places in the department, added Dr. Naydenova. That is why the patient was admitted the next day, and a companion was offered to stay, the director of the hospital explained.

In a message to the media, the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” informs that the executive director Ivanka Dineva has appointed an extraordinary inspection in the Vidin hospital. It starts today – April 23, and the Minister of Health and the public will be informed of the results of the inspection after its completion, the agency states.
