A working meeting on local security issues was held today in Silistra with the participation of senior officials from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Regional Administration, the Municipality, the directors of municipal and state schools and centers for personal development. It is the last of the series of meetings held with the mayoral teams of the remaining six municipalities in the region, at the initiative of the regional director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, senior commissioner Martin Nedyalkov, reported ODMVR-Silistra.

With a call for an open dialogue, the deputy director of ODMVR-Silistra, Commissioner Deyan Monev, introduced the participants to the topic and emphasized that the meeting is the first of a series of subsequent ones to discuss and seek solutions to problems related to local security.

A stable level of criminal crime was reported, but a worsening situation in terms of traffic safety and an increase in traffic injuries. In this connection, the issue of the movement of bicycles and electric scooters on cycle lanes and on the road and the dangers they create, especially in school areas, was brought up for discussion.

The problem with the state of the video surveillance system in the municipality, which needs upgrading and improvement, was touched upon. The idea was supported by the deputy mayor of the municipality Steliyan Stoychev, who emphasized that such an investment is justified and will be in the interest of the people.

The excellent communication and quick response by the police when needed was noted by both the representatives of the municipality and the school principals. Many of them shared about the participation and support of police officers in the implementation of their various events and initiatives. The police presence near the educational institutions at the beginning and at the end of classes was considered a positive practice.

Safeguarding schoolyards and their facilities during weekends and holidays emerged as a problem in need of a solution. Their use not only as bases for sports by children, but also for entertainment of another nature by adults pollutes the grounds and leads to material damage, some of the directors pointed out.

The participants in the discussion agreed to join forces in order to ensure more safety during the send-off of the graduates, which this year will be on May 13. The police expressed readiness to give short talks on traffic safety before the start of the summer vacation.
