XXI National Chamber Dance Festival in Haskovo will be officially opened on April 26. The dance forum is unique and the only one in Bulgaria, due to its main specificity – the requirement is to present new author’s story choreographies in a chamber composition of up to 8 dancers. The festival is the only one in Bulgaria that gathers dancers from national art schools on one stage. This was noted today by the organizers from the municipality of Haskovo and the Youth Center.

The chamber dance festival has been held since 2003, and for two years it has also had international participation.

This year, for the first time on the Haskovo stage, the talented students from the “Ilia Nikolovski – Loui” State Music and Ballet School from Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia will dance, the organizers of the prestigious dance forum announced at a press conference today.

“We are honored to note that there is exceptional interest in the professional section this year. For the first time, the leading art schools in the country from Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Pleven, Ruse and Stara Zagora will compete on our stage,” announced the deputy mayor of Haskovo, Maria Valcheva.

“We are happy about the fact that there is increased interest in the field of “Bulgarian folk dances”, both among professionals and non-professionals,” said Galina Shtereva – choreographer and organizer of the festival from the Haskovo Youth Center.

For three days, 432 dances will be presented on the stage of the Youth Center in Haskovo. The participants are over 550 from 50 dance formations from 20 cities.

The chamber dance festival has a competitive nature in four directions: “Bulgarian folk dances”, “Classical dances”, “Characteristic dances” and “Contemporary dances”.

The dance performances will be judged by: Miroslav Dimitrov – chief artistic director of TA “Pirin”-Blagoevgrad; Tsvetanka Gerginova – director of the “Arts Developing Center” and art director of the Modern Dance Studio and Rosen Kanev – premier soloist and tutor of the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
