A the ancient city of Heraclea Sintika, which is next to the temple of the prophetess Vanga in the area of Rupite, already welcomes our and foreign tourists with some of its most valuable finds.

This became a fact after the completion of the first stage of the project by the municipality of Petrich for the restoration, conservation, protection, promotion and development of the archaeological site and its adjacent acropolis. An accessible and comfortable environment is provided for every visitor who came to explore the ancient settlement, filled with a lot of history and dramatic twists in its development.

Achievement

Most of the architecture discovered by archaeologists has been preserved. All the most interesting of the ancient settlement can be seen on the built footpaths, observation decks, there are opportunities to view all this from above. There are also placed silicone figures of Heracleans, which recreate a scene from life in the ancient city. A lapidary was made of exposed artifacts – parts of columns, capitals, parts of statues and other architectural elements. The sanctuary of Nemesis was also restored. In Heraclea Sintika, there is also a modern visitor center with two halls, an exhibition with posters has been arranged, which shows the cultural and natural wealth of the Rupite area. The history of the development of the site since the beginning of excavations 17 years ago is also presented. There are also places for tourists to relax.

A leader

“I am satisfied with what was done. There are lion heads found by us, columns, capitals, cornices in the object. It is almost 100% recreated part of the northern portico of the forum, tourists can see it one to one. It is very difficult to find the balance between authenticity and attractiveness. We tried with architect Milena Kamenova not to build with artificial volumes – this is our policy for the preservation of this site,” Prof. Dr. Ludmil Vagalinski, who is the head of the team of archaeologists investigating Heraclea Sintica, told “Telegraph” yesterday. The stories from Heraclea Syntica in the period from the fourth century BC to the sixth century AD are told through the methods of modern exposure, and a building scaffolding from Roman times is also shown.
