For the first time in our country, using a phone will lead to penalties for pedestrians.

This will happen if the parliament accepts draft changes proposed by the Council of Ministers, according to which they will no longer have the right to talk about it while crossing, writes “Telegraph”.

When crossing the traffic lane, pedestrians are obliged to cross the pedestrian paths and cannot use a mobile phone, it is written in the draft texts. The range of distractions is also extended to include any other mobile communication device or other distraction.

Pedestrians, according to a special text, are obliged not to unnecessarily extend the road and crossing time, as well as not to stop unnecessarily on the traffic lane. For the newly introduced violation of pedestrians, the general amount of the fine for this type of road users remains in force – BGN 20. The aim is to prevent the distraction of pedestrians in a dangerous situation.

The draft changes also introduce a ban on cyclists handling phones and tablets while riding. Until now, such a ban existed only for drivers of electric scooters. For both groups, the obligation to get off the vehicle and cross the zebra crossing on their own is introduced. The goal is to avoid cases where they suddenly jump out in front of the cars on the lane.
