The literary capital of Bulgaria is from today Haskovo. The 52nd edition of the national contest for debut literature “South Spring” begins. At 6 p.m. in front of the “Ivan Dimov” DKT, the ceremonial opening will take place, and the symbolic fire of “Southern Spring” will be lit by Ivan Landzhev, winner of the “Pegasus” award for 2011. The program will continue with his laureate evening and presentation of the book “Stories from hand luggage” of Georgi Milkov.

Since the creation of “South Spring” in 1974. so far, 154 debut authors have been awarded the title of “laureate”.

30 authors are participating this year in the National Debut Literature Competition “South Spring”. 21 are in the genre “Poetry”, 7 in “Prose”, in the genres “Children’s Literature” and “Literary Criticism and Literary History” one participant each, and in “Film Script” and “Dramaturgy” there are no participants. The youngest is 16-year-old Daria Georgieva from Pleven.

The jury, which will evaluate this year’s works, is composed of: Chairman: Prof. Dr. Valery Stefanov – professor of the history of Bulgarian literature at SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, doctor of philological sciences, author of studies in the field of literary history and several novels, Prof. Ph.D. Plamen Antov – poet and writer, literary theorist and historian, associate professor at the Institute of Literature – BAS, Assoc. Ph.D. Mladen Vlashki – doctor of comparative literature and philosophy, university professor, literary historian and critic, Yordan Velchev – writer, poet and historian, winner of numerous awards in the field of literature, Mitko Lambov – poet and award winner.

As part of the “South Spring” Literary Days, the Municipality of Haskovo also awards the “Alexander Paskalev” award for overall contribution in the field of literature and art.

Today the program starts at 10 a.m. in RB “Hr. Smirnensky” with an exhibition “145 years since the birth of Alexander Paskalev” and presentation of a biobibliographic reference book “20 years of the award “Alexander Paskalev”.
From 11 a.m. in the children’s department of RB “Hristo Smirnenski” Maria Doneva will present the books “Zog and the flying doctors”, “The most elegant giant in the city” and “Impatience in a box”.

From 2:30 p.m., a tourist tour of Haskovo is planned for the participants of the national debut literature competition “South Spring” with a meeting point in front of the RB “Hristo Smirnenski”.

In front of HG “Forum” from 4:30 p.m. begins a concert of the Acoustic Jazz Trio-Dimitrovgrad with soloist Maria Arnaudova.

The performance PoetiTE Live is visiting Haskovo at the invitation and with the assistance of the Haskovo Municipality to put an exciting finale on the 52nd edition of “South Spring” Haskovo 2024.
