“There is political interference in the election for Sliven Metropolitan”. This was stated by the Association “Orthodox Call” at a press conference in Burgas. The occasion is the removal from the list of candidates of Bishop Hierotheus. They are adamant that someone wants a designated person to be the leader of the Sliven metropolis. Association “Orthodox Call” declared categorically against the Holy Synod’s list of candidates for Metropolitan of Sliven, which does not include the name of Bishop Hierotei.

“A photo of the Holy Synod with Mr. Peevski and Dancho Mentata came out. This definitely leads me to think that there is political interference”, said Todor Todorov from “Proud Bulgarians”.

The Association is demanding that the Synod revise the list and add the names of the four bishops who are not currently included.

“It struck us that the four are not on the list of eligible candidates. That is why we ask the Holy Synod to review it. We do not hope for a change and do not believe that the Bishop of Agathopol, Hierotheus, will be given the opportunity to participate in the election,” said the chairman of the Atanas Orachev association.

According to the Association, at the bottom of this interest lies the tempting property situation of the Diocese in South-Eastern Bulgaria.

“This is the most appetizing Diocese in Bulgaria in terms of real estate. You know, along the Southern Black Sea coast there are appetizing terrains. We are afraid, although we are not believed, but we are witnesses in other places what is happening with monastery and church things. We don’t want everything to be sold here either,” said Hierodeacon Angel Kutsarov.

The Association “Orthodox Call” will refer the case to the Orthodox Commission. They cannot come to terms with the fact that Grandfather Nicholas or the Metropolitan of Plovdiv used his substitutes so that the “correct” Metropolitan could be elected.

“There is information that the sum of BGN 30,000 or a silver coin was given away to vote against Bishop Hierotei in the diocesan election on February 18 in Sliven,” said Atanas Orachev.

The Association is ready to protest if the synod does not pay attention to their demands.
