Prof. Dr. Dragomir Plamenov, rector of the Technical University – Varna, introduced the present members of the academic leadership of the university, the deans of the four faculties and the directors of the two colleges, the director of the Department of Language and Continuing Education and Sports and Eng. Vyara Dukova, director of PGKMCS “Acad. Blagovest Sendov”. He introduced the minister to the preparation and training of highly qualified specialists – future engineers and specialists and experts in 31 bachelor’s, 42 master’s and 31 doctoral programs, as well as the continuing training and specialization of pedagogical staff. In addition, the significant continuing education and specialization of teaching staff that the university provides, establishing itself as a center of knowledge and expertise in the field of technology and education, was also considered.
Minister Tsokov said that he was curious to learn more about how the university is developing, how the connection with secondary education is being implemented and how the direction related to the training of personnel related to social activities is developing. He expressed satisfaction with the joint work between the university and the Vocational High School on Computer Modeling, which enables the exchange of innovations between the university and the high school, visits to the university science laboratories, demonstrations and student observations, and wished to build on what has been achieved with the construction of STEM classrooms and innovation labs in all schools in the city.
Issues related to the expansion and discovery of new professional areas that correspond to the specifics of the North-Eastern region, which is developing and actively looking for personnel in the field of agriculture and plant breeding, were also discussed.
Minister Tsokov promised universities more effective feedback regarding the rating system and the results of surveys conducted among students and businesses.
At the end of the fruitful meeting, the rector thanked Prof. Tsokov for the opportunity to hold a dialogue and presented the special academic plaque dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the university with a replica of the gold appliqués from the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis.
The Minister of Education and Science was shown the largest civilian maritime research infrastructure in the Republic of Bulgaria – Maritime Qualification Center of the Technical University – Varna.
