They made an exemplary visualization – using as a basis the trunk of the withered tree, which was partially removed in front of the entrance of the branch of the theater. Now it sticks out ugly, and it can become something memorable, so that tourists take pictures as a memory.
The young people suggest that a plein air be organized. To invite artists – from established to amateurs from the country and abroad, to sculpt the ugly logs into beautiful works of art.
There are many dried logs in the central part of the city, in the Sea Garden, and in the neighborhoods to be used as a basis for carvings, the young people explain.
Wood is a perishable material, they add, but the most important thing is the idea. Wood sculpture is extremely widely practiced, but it does not survive unscathed like other base materials such as stone and bronze, as it is vulnerable to rotting, insect damage and fire. Many of the most important sculptures of China and Japan, in particular, are of wood, as is most of the African sculpture and that of Oceania and other regions. Wood is light and can take very fine details. It is also much easier to work than stone and can be carved more thinly and precisely.
