“Euro elections and voting”: Young people from Silistra and Glavinitsa discuss important topics in play

On 17.04.2024 the junior ambassadors from PMG “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Silistra held a second joint activity with 40 students from SU “Vasil Levski”, Glavinitsa in connection with participation in the National competition for schools – ambassadors of the European Parliament and a school that is not a participant in the Program .
The meeting started with a simulation game – “Euro elections and voting”, for which the students were divided into three teams /parties/. For 90 minutes in the two classrooms, they debated specific proposals on the same set of questions, such as: Should nuclear power plants be used?; Stop using plastic cups and coffee stirrers?; Should young drivers drive with an escort for at least one year?; Should the students who graduated in Bulgaria be obliged to work for two years in Bulgaria?; Should the legal purchase age for tobacco products be raised?

The concept of the so-called thinking hats – the “Emotional Red Hat”, the “Creative Green Hat” and the “Optimistic Yellow Hat” was used to shape the proposals of the students from the individual teams and their presentation. In this way, each group thinks collectively under “one hat” and after the exposition of the teams /parties/ different alternative solutions are obtained. During the presentation, all meeting participants voted online and chose an MEP from one of the three proposed parties. The voting was followed by a discussion on the attitudes of the students, the reasons for the choice and the importance of this type of choice.

After the game, the junior ambassadors from PMG showed the students the film “You are the change”, created and shot by them, the purpose of which is to increase voter turnout in the EP elections in June 2024.
