The idea is to stop buses from the regional transport scheme at the state bus station. This will significantly reduce the fees that carriers now pay to enter private bus stations.
“Documents have been submitted to obtain a license for the bus station. We are waiting for the documents back and very soon, maybe a matter of weeks, we will have another bus station that will allow a more competitive environment among the carriers and thus the intercity transport in the district will become better” – commented the regional governor in the interview.
The bus station will be located on the east side of the central station. There will be 10 sectors. Its construction has nothing to do with the car breakthrough to connect the “Central” and “South” districts.
In fact, the bus station project is under the concession of the Plovdiv Central Station, which was terminated in mid-2022 by mutual agreement between the concessionaire DZZD “Railway Station Plovdiv” OOD and the state. The manager of the company, Mirolyub Stolarski, did not agree with the project for a vehicle breakthrough under the station, declared that the easement of his concession was being violated and filed a lawsuit against NKŽI. After lengthy negotiations, the concession was canceled and the state regained ownership of the property for BGN 10,731,140.90. This is the amount indicated by the concessionaire Mirolyub Stolarski as an investment he made in the site from 2015 at the time of the cancellation of the contract.
After the termination of the concession, NKŽI took over the management of the station and started the construction of the tunnel, and in the future it will also manage the new bus station. The contractor of the car tunnel “Trace Group Hold” has no commitment to the construction of the bus station, Nikolay Ivanov, the head of the transport project at the construction company, specified for our media.
