A torchlight procession in Varna commemorated the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

A torchlight procession marking the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in Varna. In this way, the Armenian community in the seaside town paid tribute to the victims of the tragic events of 1915.

The procession started from the yard of the Armenian Church “Saint Sarkis” and passed through the central streets of Varna.

Every year, the Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Mass Extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in the period 1915-1922 was marked in our country. It was announced by the Decision of the 43rd National Assembly of April 24, 2015.

With the same decision, the parliament recognized the mass extermination of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during the period 1915-1922, which was identified with categorical historical facts and authentic documents.

Anniversary of the mass arrests (1915) in Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) in Turkey of thousands of Armenians suspected of hostilities against the central government of the Ottoman Empire. Most of them were subsequently executed or deported, BTA recalls. About a million and a half were slaughtered between 1915 and 1917.
