The municipality of Veliko Tarnovo finances 25 families for in vitro fertilization

25 families and persons living on a family basis with reproductive problems from the settlements in the municipality of Veliko Tarnovo will be supported with municipal funding for in vitro research and procedures related to the treatment of infertility.
The amount of funding will be up to BGN 2,000 per approved candidate, and the funds will come from the earmarked expenditure section of the 2024 budget, according to the municipal program for assisted reproduction. The majority of the persons who will be assisted are from Veliko Tarnovo, but there are also families from Kilifarevo, Rusalya, Samovodene and Debelec.
The municipal program for assisted reproduction was launched in 2011, and in the first year 30 thousand BGN were allocated. They helped 16 couples and families with reproductive problems. Over the years, more than 140 families have been helped, some of them more than twice.
Two Christmas charity balls in 2011 and 2016, organized by the Mayor of the Municipality, were also dedicated to the cause of supporting couples and families with reproductive problems. The funds collected by them were in the amount of more than BGN 21 thousand.
For the years during which the program was implemented, 54 babies were successfully born, of which 10 pairs of twins.
