The official opening ceremony of the renovated educational building under the project “Implementation of energy-saving measures to achieve a building with close to zero consumption in St. St. Cyril and Methodius” – Vidin” was held in a solemn atmosphere, in the assembly hall of the school. The event was attended by Tsvetan Tsenkov – Mayor of the Municipality of Vidin, Desislava Todorova – Deputy Mayor for European Policies and Investments, Veselka Asenova Head of the Regional Department of Education, Eng. Biserka Kamenova – School Director, Eng. Valentin Krastev – Company Manager – contractor “KID PLUS” EOOD, Yanina Todorova – project manager, the chairman of the Public Council of the school – Diomil Popov, teachers and students.
In his speech, Tsvetan Tsenkov expressed his gratitude to the Governing Body – Ministry of Energy and to everyone who participated in the hard work for the successful implementation of the project. “At the director’s initiative, we started with a poplar tree in front of the school. With the help of woodcarvers, we managed to turn it into a monument, a personification of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, and years later the whole school was renovated,” recalled the mayor of Vidin Municipality. He addressed the students with a wish for a fair wind so that they become the future creators of the city of Vidin.
Eng. Biserka Kamenova, on behalf of herself and the entire school community, thanked the municipal leadership and the project team for their support and efforts to realize the renovated, modern building dreamed of for generations. “We highly value this gift and will work responsibly to preserve the spiritual atmosphere bequeathed by our ancestors 139 years ago and with new successes we will meet the 140th anniversary of this temple of science and art,” said the director in his greeting.
The mayor of the Municipality of Vidin, the director of the school and the representative of the contractor company together cut the ribbon on the renovated building. According to an old Bulgarian tradition, guests and hosts crossed the threshold of the renovated school with bread and salt and a menche with water.
Congratulatory addresses to Tsvetan Tsenkov and Engineer Biserka Kamenova were received by Rositsa Kirova – Deputy Speaker of the forty-ninth National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, by Lyuben Ivanov – Member of Parliament, as well as by the regional governor of Vidin – Ivo Atanasov.
The project “Implementation of energy-saving measures to achieve a building with close to zero consumption in “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” – Vidin” is implemented through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021, under the “Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Security” Program. The beneficiary is the Municipality of Vidin, and partners: Energy Agency – Plovdiv and NORCE Norwegian Research Center AS. The funds for the repair are in the amount of BGN 2,856,455.50 – grant-in-aid. With its successful completion, SU “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” was transformed from a conventional to a highly efficient building, in which a significant part of the energy is supplied by renewable sources. The introduction of energy-saving measures will reduce heat losses on the external enclosing structures. A photovoltaic installation was built to cover own needs and heat pump heating. The school is the first in Northwest Bulgaria with energy class A and close to zero energy consumption.
The ceremonial program included performances by the school’s cheerleading squad and the “Danube Rainbow” vocal group.
