The robotics team SmartPobo with students from the 7th grade of the “Stefan Karadzha” elementary school in Dobrich presented the city for the second year in a row in the largest Lego robotics festival in the world – FIRST LEGO League Challenge` 2024. The event, which takes place in over 110 countries around the world with millions participants, took place at the Burgas Free University.
Nearly 200 children and their mentors from all over the country participated. The theme of this year’s competition was “Masterpiece” or “How do science and technology help us create, spread and share different interests, hobbies and arts?”. Teams answer this question by completing an innovative project and various missions they go through with their robots on the “robot battle” stage.
For several months, the Dobric robotics team consisting of Cecil Suleiman, Nicoleta Stefanova, Iren Hristova, Ivaylo Georgiev and Neicho Georgiev, under the guidance of their mentor Maria Georgieva, prepared diligently for this friendly competition. During the competition, students demonstrated knowledge, skills, teamwork, quick search and decision making during the competition in the various categories – Innovative Project, Core Values, Robo Design and Robo Game.
The festival is a playful STEM program through which students build teamwork, language and engineering skills.
STEM education is becoming increasingly popular because of the technological skills associated with the professions of the future. Therefore, the competition is a tool for teamwork, for creative thinking and experimentation, for searching for solutions to problems.
The event also included an exhibition part where various Lego robot models were presented to clubs from all over the country.
