MEPs are afraid of Russian interference in the upcoming parliamentary elections in our country, as well as the properties in Bulgaria owned by the Russian authorities, reported the BNR correspondent in Brussels.

This is clear from a draft resolution on Russian interference in the upcoming European elections and their influence on the EU. The text for our country is contained in the project of the European People’s Party. Among its proponents is the MEP from this group, Andrey Kovachev. The resolution is due to be voted on tomorrow in a plenary hall in Strasbourg.

The European Parliament is concerned by credible reports of intensified Russian attempts to interfere in the upcoming elections for the Bulgarian National Assembly on 9 June, expresses serious concern about the existence of Russian control over a network of disinformation agents active in social media platforms, academia, NGOs and political parties; is seriously disturbed by the numerous properties on the territory of Bulgaria currently owned by the Russian authorities, some of which are of strategic importance and serve as centers for Russian influence on the country’s democratic processes“, the text says.

Specific properties are not mentioned. Obviously, one of them is the “Kamchia” complex, owned by the Moscow City Hall. Yesterday, MEP Alexander Yordanov demanded that it be confiscated, as it is a base for advancing Russian interests in Europe.

Tomorrow, MEPs will vote on another resolution on Russia. It is dedicated to the presidential elections held there a month ago. Almost all parliamentary groups consider the elections to be non-transparent. Some of them call on the EU not to recognize Vladimir Putin as a legitimate president.

Andrey Kovachev is among the authors of the text of the EPP and of this resolution.
