Municipal councilors propose changes to the rules for driving electric scooters in Ruse

The proposal is to ban electric scooters in parks, gardens, squares, playgrounds, areas intended only for pedestriansas well as within the intersections with crossings of pedestrian areas.

Three municipalitynits – Dr. Rositsa Krasteva, Svetlozar Simeonov and Stoyan Hristov – submitted a proposal to amend Ordinance No. 18 on public order when using vehicles on the territory of the Municipality ruse.

The proposal is motivated by the frequent incidents involving electric scooters in the city. According to the importers, scooters should not be used in parks, gardens, squares, playgrounds, as well as pedestrian areas and intersections. The restriction does not apply to pedestrianswho push a scooter.

The proposal states that electric scooters are an ecological alternative to car traffic, but the lack of clear rules for their use is a prerequisite for the occurrence of traffic accidents.

Importers offer in Ordinance No. 18 to create a new para. 6 in Art. 13 with the following content:

“Movement with an individual electric vehicle in parks, gardens, squares, playgrounds, areas intended only for pedestrians, as well as within the intersections with crossings of pedestrian areas, is prohibited. The restriction does not apply to pedestrians when driving by pushing an individual electric vehicle.’

The proposal will be considered by the Municipal Council of Ruse.
