They presented an exhibition for the 145th anniversary of Alexander Pascalev’s birth and a reference book

An exhibition was presented for the 145th anniversary of Alexander Paskalev’s birth at the “Hristo Smirnenski” Regional Library in Haskovo. The exhibition was opened by the director of the cultural center Anna Shtilyanova. A bibliographic reference book “20 years of the Alexander Pascalev Award” was also presented. The deputy mayor of the municipality of Haskovo, Maria Valcheva, was present.

Cultural events marked the beginning of the Literary Days “Southern Spring” in Haskovo.

The exhibition presents the life and work of the famous Bulgarian book publisher, born on November 7, 1879 in Haskovo. “In these few canvases, we have tried to tell about his comprehensive activity and its significance,” said Anna Shtilyanova. At the beginning, Paskalev’s youth is shown, when he was a teacher, co-founder of the Second Tourist Society “Rhodope Tourist” and an actor in a cooperative movement.

“I don’t aim to tell his entire biography and activity, because you will see part of it in the exhibition, but it is important to know and remember the works of the “father of modern book publishing in Bulgaria” and to be proud of it, that he was born in Haskovo,” Shtilyanova also said.

During the Literary Days, the Municipality of Haskovo presents every year the high distinction for contribution to culture, art and literature, bearing the name of the Haskovlia. The award was presented for the first time in 2004. Its first bearer posthumously was the poet Ivan Nikolov. Today, the laureates of the “Alexander Pascalev” award and their heirs attended the opening of the exhibition in the Haskovo library. They shared their excitement at the moment of being awarded this distinction and told interesting facts about Alexander Paskalev’s family.

Literary Days “South Spring” Haskovo 2024 will be officially opened tonight. At 18:00 in front of the “Ivan Dimov” DKT, the fire of “South Spring” will be lit by Ivan Landzhev, recipient of the “Pegas” award for 2011. Immediately after the official opening of the literary festivals, there will be the laureate evening of Ivan Landzhev and the meeting with Georgi Milkov , who presents his book “Stories from hand luggage”.
