A total of 1,004 speed limit violations were detected during a police operation conducted last week in the Gabrovo region. The results of it were announced by the press center of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Gabrovo.
From April 15 to 21 in the Gabrovo region, as well as throughout the country, a police operation was held to control the speed on the roads. The control points were adjusted in time and place to the intensity of the traffic and the presence of prerequisites for driving vehicles at an excessive speed.
Priority was given to the places and sections with a concentration of traffic accidents that occurred most often due to excessive speed.
From 00:00 to 23:59 on April 19, the “24-hour marathon – Speed” was held. The traffic police used all available technical means to control the speed both in the light and in the dark part of the day.
The operation aimed to focus attention on speeding – one of the main causes of serious accidents with casualties and injuries.
On April 19, during the “24-hour marathon – Speed” 214 violations of speed regimes were found.
In the remaining days of the week, a total of 790 violations were detected, of which 546 were violations in populated areas and 244 in non-populated areas.
The road transport accidents that occurred in the first quarter of the year on the territory of the district, which are the result of driving at speeds exceeding the maximum permissible and not in accordance with the specific road and atmospheric conditions, are a total of 31, with 28 causing material damage and 3 serious road accidents with 5 injured.
In the past year, a total of 31,407 tickets were issued for violation of speed limits, the police also inform.
