She was born in Bulgaria, but is a Spanish MEP. Eva-Maria Popcheva with a special interview for NOVINI.BG.

Popcheva is the newest member of the European Parliament from the Spanish centrist liberal political party “Grazhdani”, which is a member of ALDE.

She was born in Plovdiv in 1979. She studied law at the “Albert Ludwig” University in Freiburg, Germany and received a doctorate in constitutional law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Before starting work at the European Parliament, she worked as a lawyer in Spain and Germany.

If people want to have a say in European Union (EU) policies, get out and vote. It is here in the European Parliament (EP) that the policies for life are made. And Bulgaria is a real player in Europe, no matter what you think, Eva-Maria Popcheva told NOVINI.BG. She is categorical: “They hear her as a full-fledged member.”

According to her, however, in order for Bulgaria to be at the center of European politics, it really needs to accept the euro and become a full member of Schengen.

Eva-Maria Popcheva otherwise also determined that the mandate of the current EP was filled with many challenges – COVID, wars, migration. And despite the negative attitude towards the EU, Popcheva reminded: “That’s why go and vote.” Regarding the claims that nationalist parties will enter the next EP, she said that she personally is not afraid of it, on the contrary.

And about what politics took and gave her, Popcheva revealed with a smile that she works seven days a week, everything is very intense, but she is still very satisfied. She also opened a door to her personal life. He revealed that he doesn’t have much time because he has two small children, but when he can, he always pays attention to sports.

When asked if we will see her name on Spain’s Eurolist, Popcheva said that she hopes so, but she cannot comment further, because until the beginning of May, nothing will probably be known.

In connection with the elections in Bulgaria, which are coming up on June 9, Eva-Maria Popcheva stated that political instability is a big problem and therefore advised politicians to explain more, because Bulgarian policies are closely related to European ones.
