In the Regional Library “Nikolai Vranchev” – Smolyan, the first reading club in the city will be established today. This was announced by “Focus” Irena Pushkarevich – librarian-expert. Incorporation will take place today, April 24 at 6:00 p.m. “The idea arose in an unexpected way and Kiril Asenov Jr. gave us an impetus. He was at our meeting with the writer Vasil Popov, who presented his book “The Trickster” to us and then contacted our director and suggested forming a book or literary club of Smolyan. The idea is to get together once a month and decide what book to read that month. The emphasis will be mostly on Bulgarian fiction, so that local readers can get to know contemporary authors. To understand what they write and to promote both what is read and Bulgarian authors among society, especially the society from Smolyan”, explained Pushkarevich. She specified that anyone over 16 who likes to read and share what they read can participate in the club. The meetings will be held once a month, during which it will be decided which book will be read and after a month it will be discussed in the club. It is planned to invite the authors of the books themselves during their discussion. The idea is, if there is interest in the reading club, to create another club for the children in Smolyan.

The initiator of the idea to create the reading club in Smolyan, Kiril Asenov, Jr. told about “Focus”, that he had the opportunity to study abroad and to be a member of such a club there. “It was extremely interesting to meet people who have the same goals as me. It gave me the opportunity to discuss with them my favorite literature, discover new recommendations and, above all, new acquaintances. I think that our regional library is the right partner for the development of such an activity and the creation of such a club. I think that more people should start reading, find new friends and acquaintances with whom to share what they have read,” Asenov pointed out.

He is adamant that Smolyan deserves more cultural events and even more events that are permanent and have them every month. “I think that this is a good start for this kind of club. The idea is to meet new people, to find new books through which to enrich ourselves and those around us, and I really want to invite Bulgarian authors and we already have success and a plan for it.I expect a lot of people to join the club, although most likely people will approach more timidly because everyone is busy and working.I believe that at the beginning there will be enough people who will get involved and I expect more and more people to join the club. We have plans to create a children’s reading club in the near future and reach more children,” said Asenov.
