The mayor of Plovdiv, Kostadin Dimitrov, received the volleyball champions from Maritsa (Plovdiv) in the building of the Municipality of Plovdiv, who on Sunday won a record tenth consecutive Bulgarian title, Marichan women also carried the Bulgarian Cup, which was won for the 9th time and the team made a golden double . The event was also attended by the chairman of the Municipal Council Atanas Uzunov, the deputy mayor for sports and youth activities Nikolay Bukhalov, the vice president of the club Svetoslav Slavov and the manager of the club Boris Halanchev, the volleyball players and the coaching staff.
The mayor of Plovdiv Kostadin Dimitrov stated that with her development, Maritsa sets an example not only for volleyball clubs, but also for other sports.
“When there is help from business and from the community combined with the support of the fans, then you get this great energy and power. We thank you on behalf of the Plovdiv community for women’s volleyball to be at the highest level. I know how a team is built, how you build yourself as individuals and as champions,” Dimitrov addressed the contestants and thanked them for the efforts they are making for Plovdiv and the country.
“Maritsa is an example not only for volleyball, but also for other sports. I have personally taken ideas from you on how to develop a club. There are many sports facilities in Plovdiv, so the infrastructure should support the development of all sports,” the mayor also said.
Atanas Uzunov used the opportunity to invite the female champions to the next regular session of the Municipal Council, which is scheduled for Thursday.
“The city budget passes through the municipal council, and it also includes sports. Colleagues from the municipal council would like to meet you. I’m a big fan of men’s and women’s volleyball. I watch your matches. I have a slight pain for this year, but I will tell you about it tomorrow,” said Uzunov.
The Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv Nikolay Bukhalov also congratulated the “yellow and blue” for the record tenth consecutive title and expressed confidence that Maritsa will win many more titles and cups.
“I know how much effort it takes, to succeed ten times in a row is a big success. A lot of generations have changed over the years, but you show you can. There is continuity, which is very good. This will not be the last title, there will be many more trophies and I wish you to win all the tournaments,” Bukhalov told the volleyball players.
“We express our gratitude for your help, which is also for the national team of Bulgaria. Maritsa’s team includes all Bulgarian national volleyball players of different ages, and this is how the Municipality of Plovdiv helps the development of women’s volleyball in Bulgaria,” said club vice-president Svetoslav Slavov.
